Big Bear Lake to Host Global Long-Distance Hiking Event Series as HIGHLANDER expands into U.S.

HIGHLANDER was created in Croatia in 2017 when three of the three friends Jurica Barac Igor Mlinarevic and Andrej Mlinarevic have decided to share their enthusiasm and love of long-distance hiking. The series has since expanded into a global series with 15 countries comprising Austria, France, Greece, Morocco, Slovenia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Our goal is to inspire individuals to take on a hike and, in turn, change themselves for better physical and mental health according to HIGHLANDER Adventure’s CEO and co-founder Jurica Barac. This is the reason we are so happy and content with the fact that HIGHLANDER is finally making its way to the American terrain. America is a place that is stunning in its natural beauty, and those who wish to change their lives. That’s why we’re sure that the hiking trip for the long-distance HIGHLANDER is going to be a huge delight.”

“HIGHLANDER is an extended-distance hiking experience accessible to all who want to push themselves to the limit as they learn about sustainability,” Barac added. “For the very first time ever, this year’s HIGHLANDER event will be held in America located in Big Bear Lake, California exudes adventure and breathtaking landscapes. Therefore, I would like to invite you to join us starting on the 27th of September be a part of the change with us.

“Thanks to our strategic partner in the world, Spartan Race, Visit Big Bear as well as the team from HIGHLANDER that have worked on the project for months in order to bring our ‘Adventure for a Lifetime” to America. Come on out and join us on the trail!’

The year 2021 was the first time Spartan, the globe’s most renowned endurance sports and extreme wellness brand identified HIGHLANDER’s potential in a partnership with a potential strategic stakeholder making it possible to bring this unique, long-distance adventure hiking experience to the U.S.

The mission, vision, and values that are shared by both brands are derived from the same source of building physical and mental strength to effect positive lifestyle transformations.

The partnership between Spartan Race and HIGHLANDER lets us encourage many more people across the world to engage in activities physically demanding that they feel are out of their abilities”,” stated Spartan Race founder and CEO Joe De Sena. “This is about identifying our limits, and going beyond them.”

Every HIGHLANDER event has its own unique venue including vast deserts mountain tops that are snowy and sand dunes pastures and lakes that appeal to the modern-day nomads.

The participants are encouraged to ditch their phones and take in the natural world and join the global HIGHLANDER group of hikers.

“The HIGHLANDER approach strikes the perfect combination of guided treks and self-sufficient exploration,” said Peter Watson, acclaimed travel writer photographer, writer as well as HIGHLANDER ambassador. “With the many logistical issues handled I am able to enjoy the freedom of hiking on my own, but with the added benefit of being lighter and not having to worry about food and fuel supply and route planning, or looking for campsites that are suitable every day. Instead, I can pay attention to the trail ahead and take in the beautiful scenery.”

“HIGHLANDER will also provide a fantastic opportunity to meet other like-minded individuals and meet new people while hiking,” Watson added. “Even though I’m a solo hiker, others are always within reach and always ready to stop to talk. In the evenings, there’s a lot of socializing with hikers sharing stories around the campfire. I’ve kept in touch with several people I met along the way and are already planning future HIGHLANDER hikes.”
